Description | This seven minute video is an excellent overview of the Greek Gods. A list of the gods so that the students could take notes would be of benefit. Summary: There are 12 gods and goddesses who reside in Mount Olympus, these gods have influenced everything today such as the battle of Troy. The War God, Ares, is bloodthirsty and loves war. He is ruthless and feared by many. Another god, Hephaestus, was one of the only ugly gods on Mount Olympus. It is said that Zeus, the god of gods threw him down the mountain because of his unattractiveness. However,he is really powerful and is the god of forges. He crafted the tools and palaces of the Gods. The only god with a mortal parent was Dionyus.He is the god of Wine and Theater. The worlds best poetry was written to him. Apollo was the god of propechy, music, and bow. He is the first god to teach mortals ( us ) to sing and use medicine. Poseidon, one of the big three original gods that defeated Kronos, ruled the Sea. He has a powerful trident that sets earthquakes and amazing storms to destroy his enemies. Zeus, his brother, is the god of gods and lighting. He has a powerful thunderbolt that can kill anyone including his brother Poseidon. Hermes was the messenger god and the god of thieves and commerce.( interstate commerce! ) Hermes is credited with aiding travelers. The last god is Hades who is the god of the underworld. He is one of the big three buthas been outshadowed by his brother. He is usually shown as the god of death. |
