Description | Wind power is one of the fastest growing forms of alternative energy in the world. Because the propellers are so large the windmills need to be in the countryside. But a new form of wind power is now designed to work in an urban environment it is a propeller free wind mill, called a wind spire. It is modeled after an ancient Egyptian wheat grinder. The small wind mill can supply 25 – 30 percent of power in your house they also have a larger version for more power. The new wind mill was tested in Utah. The wind spire is quiet and bird friendly, friendly because the birds can see it. VOA producer Zulima Palacio has the story. Mill Arcega narrates. Good quality video that is good for middle elementary and middle school students. |
