Description | Seabird biologists organized a planting trip to Scorpion Rock off of Santa Cruz Island. The planting was part of a seabird habitat restoration project for Cassin's Auklets. These seabirds create nests by burrowing under native shrub habitat. Biologists removed the non-native plants that prevented seabirds from nesting on the rock and planted 3,000 native plants this year. Water, people, and supplies are brought over to Scorpion Rock by skiffs from Scorpion Ranch Harbor, Santa Cruz Island. This short film shows the process of restoring native vegetation to a tiny rock island. |
