| Description | Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Russia in 1812 is the centerpiece of this six-minute video and deals with its cause and effect. Napoleon Bonaparte had raised the largest army that Europe had ever witnessed and wielded it to conquer much of the European landmass. In 1812, Napoleon's army marched swiftly through Russia, but couldn't live off the land due to the Russian army's scorched-earth tactics. Eventually, the French reached Moscow, furious to find it deserted and burned to the ground, forcing them to retreat the thousand miles back to France and face the harsh Russian winter. The march resulted in a huge loss of men and ultimately resulted in the destruction of his empire. The video also explains how scientists find evidence of these battles. |
