| Description | 1991’s Persian Gulf War was the result of decades of bad blood between Iraq and the United States. Not only that, but Iraq sought to expand its influence in the Arab world, and to gain control over much of the world’s oil. The Iran-Iraq war had left Saddam Hussein’s Iraq broke. Saddam blamed neighboring Kuwait for driving down oil prices and keeping him in the hole, so his regime invaded that country to start the entire affair. The United Nations hoped for a diplomatic end to the conflict; however a United States-led coalition eventually did battle and drove Iraqi forces from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. WatchMojo.com looks back at the events that led to the Persian Gulf War, as well as some of the key dates and events that occurred during this conflict. |
