| Description | This document is a text book on English of Standard VIII of Kerala Board. It has three units.Here unit I contains a prose "The Mysterious Picture" by Charles De Coster , a Japanese folk tale "The boy who Drew Cat" by Hasegawa Takejiro, a poem "Taj Mahal" by Rabindranath Tagore and another poem "We are the World" by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie Jr. The lines of the poem "Taj Mahal" are taken from Tagore's poem "Shah Jahan" where the poet described the beauty of this immortal creation. The value of art is depicted in another poem. The two stories are about artist which will make the language learning process enjoyable. The unit II contains two stories "A Shipwrecked Sailor" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and " The Little Round Red House" by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey and two poems "From a Railway Carriage" by R L Stevenson and " Marvellous Travel" by Joshua Fernandez. The activity contains a poem on Adjectives "Two Funny,Little Red apples". The views from the window of railway carriage and the joy of travelling are described in the poems. Unit III contains two stories "The Light on the Hills" by Lucky Clifford and" Rosa Park Sat Still" by Rosa Park and two poems "The Sower" by Victor Marie Hugo and "The Village Blacksmith" by H W Longfellow. The stories depict the importance of hard work and motivation. The success story of Rosa Park to establish justice is described in this content. The lives of common men and importance of ploughing are described in the poems.The interesting activities will improve the creativity of the learners. |
