Description	প্রতি বছর বহু মানুষ বন্যা ও নদীভাঙ্গনের কবলে পড়েন। দামোদরে বন্যার সময় পরিস্থিতি এতই ভয়ঙ্কর হয় যে দামোদরকে দক্ষিণবঙ্গের দুঃখ বলা হয়। এই অবস্থার থেকে মুক্তি পেতে দামোদরের প্রবাহপথে বাঁধ নির্মাণ করে নদীর বন্যার জলকে ধরে রাখার পরিকল্পনা করা হয়েছিল। সেখানে মেঘনাদ সাহা উপদেশ দিয়েছিলেন ছোট ছোট বাঁধ বাধতে হবে নদীর পরিবাহ এলাকায়,পার্বত্য অঞ্চলে।কিন্তু সে উপদেশ মানা হয়নি। ফল হয়েছিল মারাত্মক। এই প্রবন্ধে গঙ্গাভাঙ্গন, বাঁধ নির্মাণ, নদীর জলনিকাশী ব্যবস্থা প্রভৃতি আলোচনা করা হয়েছে। Every year many people are affected by floods and river erosion. The situation during the floods in Damodar was so dire that Damodar was called the sorrow of South Bengal. To get rid of this condition, it was planned to build a dam on the Damodar stream to retain the flood waters of the river. Meghnad Saha advised to build small dams in the river area, in the hilly areas. But his advice is not followed. The result was fatal. This article discusses Ganges erosion, dam construction, river drainage system etc.
