| Abstract | A series of metal–organic complexes based on d $^{10}$ metals and the ligand $H_{4}bbh$ $(H_{4}bbh$ = benzene-1 , 2, 4, 5-biformhydrazide ), formed through hydrothermal in situ acylate reaction of $H_{4}bta$ $(H_{4}bta$ = benzene-1 , 2, 4, 5-tetracarboxylic acid ) with hydrazine hydrate $(N_{2}H_{4}·H_{2}O),$ have been prepared and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction . Compounds $[Zn(μ_{2}-H_{2}bbh)(phen)(H_{2}O)]_{2}$ (1) ( phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline ) and $[Zn(μ_{2}-H_{2}bbh)(2,$ 2′-bpy)] $_{2}$ (2) (2, 2′-bpy = 2, 2′-bipyridine ) are both dinuclear complexes in which bridging ligands $H_{2}bbh^{2−}$ display different $μ_{2}-$ coordination modes. $[Zn(μ_{2}-H_{2}bbh)_{1/2}(μ_{2}-H_{2}bbh)_{1/2}(H_{2}O)]_{n}$ (3) exhibits a two-dimensional (2-D) layer structure containing simultaneously two kinds of different coordination modes of $H_{2}bbh^{2−}:$ $μ_{2}-bidentate$ and μ $_{4}-tetradentate$ . $[Cd(μ_{3}-H_{2}bbh)(phen)]_{n}$ (4) consists of one-dimensional (1-D) double-metal chains. The crystal structures of these compounds are stabilized by hydrogen bonds and π⋯π interactions, forming three-dimensional supramolecular networks. All of the compounds were characterized by IR , UV-vis spectra and elemental analysis and they show good fluorescence properties in the solid state at room temperature. In order to understand the emission mechanism, we carried out TDDFT calculations on the excited electronic states of compound 2. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
