| Abstract | The crystal structure, microstructure, and piezoelectric properties of 1-wt% MnO-doped (1 − x)KNbO$_{3}$-xBiFeO$_{3}$ (x = 0 ∼ 0.05) ceramics were investigated. The crystal structure changed from orthorhombic to pseudo-cubic around x = 0.005 in the (1 − x)KNbO$_{3}$-xBiFeO$_{3}$ ceramics. The addition of BiFeO$_{3}$ to KNbO$_{3}$ reduced the grain size and led to poor densification. The Dielectric constant showed a maximum at x = 0.005 where the crystal structure changed. The KNbO$_{3}$ ceramic had a pinched P-E hysteresis loop. KNbO$_{3}$-BiFeO$_{3}$ ceramics had lower remanent polarizations (P$_{ r }$) than KNbO$_{3}$, probably due to the effect of small grain size. The KNbO$_{3}$ ceramic showed good piezoelectric properties; a planar electromechanical factor (k$_{ p }$) of 0.304, a mechanical quality factor (Q$_{ m }$) of 281, and a piezoelectric constant (d$_{33}$) of 121 pC/N. The KNbO$_{3}$-BiFeO$_{3}$ ceramic, however, had inferior piezoelectric properties compared to KNbO$_{3}$ due to the incomplete poling resulting from the small grain size, low density, and low insulating resistance. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
