NDLI: Biosorption Modeling with Multilayer Perceptron for Removal of Lead and Zinc Ions Using Crab Shell Particles

Abstract	Crab shell particles were tested for its capacity to remove Pb$^{2+}$ and Zn$^{2+}$ ions from the aqueous solution and evaluated in a batch reactor. The binding of Pb$^{2+}$ and Zn$^{2+}$ ions with crab shell particles was found to be affected significantly by pH, with optimal sorption observed at pH 4.5. The influence of temperature on metal uptake showed that sorption process is favorable at room temperature and increasing the temperature decreases the Pb$^{2+}$ and Zn$^{2+}$ ion uptake. The effect of co-ions (Na$^{+}$, Ca$^{2+}$, K$^{+}$, and Mg$^{2+}$) in addition to Pb$^{2+}$ and Zn$^{2+}$ ion present in the aqueous solution was also studied. The results obtained were modeled with multilayered perceptron (MLP) and compared with other standard models like Langmuir model, Freundich model, Redlich–Peterson model and Sips model. Result shows that MLP can be efficiently used to model the biosorption system.
