| Abstract | In this study, the thermal properties of bamboo/cotton blended single jersey fabrics have been studied in relation to linear density, loop length and blend proportion on thickness, air permeability, thermal conductivity, thermal resistance and water vapour permeability. Cotton, bamboo fibre and blends of the two fibres (100 % cotton, 100 % bamboo, 50:50 % bamboo/cotton) were spun into yarns of linear densities (20$^{s}$, 25$^{s}$, 30$^{s}$ Ne$_{c}$). Each of the yarns so produced was converted to single jersey knitted fabrics with three loop lengths. The thermal conductivity of the fabrics was generally found to decrease with increase in the proportion of bamboo fibre. The water vapour permeability and air permeability of the fabrics were observed to increase with increase in bamboo fibre content. An increasing presence of bamboo fibre in the fabric causes a reduction in fabric thickness and GSM for all linear densities of yarn. As the constituent yarn gets finer, fabric air and water-vapour permeability both increase in value while the thermal conductivity falls. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
