| Abstract | The use of high fluoride-content coal caused the severe coal-burning endemic fluorosis in Zhijin County, Guizhou Province, China. The long-term mine exploitation in this region is as an important source of acid mine drainage (AMD) and leads to the release of potential fluoride (F$^{−}$) into the surrounding waters. Aiming to investigate the source, hydrogeochemical characteristics and influencing factors of fluoride in waters of this area, a hydrogeological and geochemical research has been conducted in this study. Samples of various types of waters were collected and analyzed for major cations, major anions and TFe, Al; selected coal and gangue samples were analyzed for fluoride contents. The F$^{−}$ concentration in AMD or AMD-affected waters ranged from 0.27 to 4.94 mg/L, and F$^{−}$ was mainly enriched in Na–SO$_{4}$ and Mg–SO$_{4}$ waters, but a relatively low F$^{−}$ concentration was found in the Ca–SO$_{4}$ water. The F$^{−}$ concentration in the Ca–HCO$_{3}$ water without being affected by AMD ranged from 0.01 to 0.20 mg/L. The elevated F$^{−}$ contents were found in the AMD, which is mainly influenced by the local coal mining activities, and it is resulted from the dissolution of fluoride-bearing minerals in coal-bearing clastic rocks, as well as the low pH values, high Al and Fe concentrations, high total dissolved solids and high Al/F ratio of the AMD. In addition, the dissolution/precipitation of carbonate rocks and special hydrogeological conditions determined the F$^{−}$ concentration in surface water. Meanwhile, the climate is also an influencing factor that cannot be ignored to affect the F$^{−}$ concentrations of surface water and groundwater. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.

NDLI is a conglomeration of freely available or institutionally contributed or donated or publisher managed contents. Almost all these contents are hosted and accessed from respective sources. The responsibility for authenticity, relevance, completeness, accuracy, reliability and suitability of these contents rests with the respective organization and NDLI has no responsibility or liability for these. Every effort is made to keep the NDLI portal up and running smoothly unless there are some unavoidable technical issues.
Ministry of Education, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT), has sponsored and funded the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) project.
