| Abstract | Snow-cover information is important for a wide variety of scientific studies, water supply and management applications. Various remote sensing products are used to identify spatial–temporal trends in snow cover. Snow cover maps produced by Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellites are one of the best sources of satellite-based snow cover monitoring since they are produced on a daily basis and can be downloaded from the Internet for free. Their main limitation, however, is cloud obscuration. The accuracy of MODIS snow products must be known in order to optimize their use. Present study deals with accuracy assessment of the MODIS Fractional Snow Products as compared to snow cover image obtained from IRS-P6 LISS-III. MODIS Fractional Snow Cover Product for three snow seasons (October–May) of 2006–07, 2008–09, and 2009–10 for both MOD10A1 and MYD10A1 were downloaded from NASA Distributed Active Archive Centre (DAAC) located at the National Snow and Ice Data Centre (NSIDC) ( http://reverb.echo.nasa.gov/reverb/ ). MODIS Reprojection Tool (Version 4.1) and ERDAS IMAGINE 2011 were respectively used for converting downloaded data to the suitable format for GIS software and to subset the image for study area. IRS-P6 LISS-III images for the study area were procured from National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, Hyderabad, India. The comparison of SCA% in between MODIS and LISS-III showed that performance of MODIS for snow cover mapping in Eastern Himalayan region is satisfactory. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
