NDLI: Electrical resistivity imaging of the marginal faults of Eumsung Basin with a standard-deviation analysis

Abstract	Electrical resistivity surveys were undertaken in the Eumsung Basin (Cretaceous), Korea to delineate basin geometry. Basin boundaries were effectively clarified in electrical dipole-dipole resistivity section as high resistivity contrast bands. A statistical analysis on the resistivity section was tested in terms of standard deviation and was applied to electrical dipole-dipole and magnetotelluric resistivity structures. The objective was to improve resistivity imaging of basin-margin fault and basin structure. This focusing strategy proved to be effective in the subsurface reconstruction of basin architecture as well as the surface demarcation of basin-margin faults and brittle fracture zones. On the basis of statistical analysis, the maximum depth of the basin varies from about 1km in the northern part to approximately 4 km in the middle part. The approach of image focusing technique can be an important tool in clarification of some major ambiguities that one is often faced with in interpretation of resistivity inversion results.
