| Abstract | IEEE 802.11 is the most deployed wireless local area networking standard nowadays. It uses carrier sense multiple access with collision avoldance (CSMA/CA) to, resolve contention between nodes. Contention windows (CW) change dynamically to adapt to the contention level: Upon each collision a node doubles itsCW to, reduce further collision risks. Upon a successful transmission theCW is reset, assuming the contention level dropped. However, contention level is more likely to change slowly, and resetting theCW causes new collisions and retransmissions before reaching the optimal value again. This wastes bandwidth and increases delays. In this paper we propose simple slowCW decrease functions and compare their performances to the legacy standard. We analyze them through simulation and show their considerable enhancement at all congestion levels and transient phases. IEEE 802.11 est la norme de réseaux locaux sans-fil la plus déployée de nos jours. Il utiliseCSMA/CA pour résoudre les conflits entre émetteurs. Les fenêtres de conflits (CW) changent dynamiquement pour s’adapter au niveau de conflits; après chaque collision un émetteur double sa fenêtre pour réduire les risques de futures collisions. Après chaque bonne émission, un émetteur remet sa fenêtre à sa valeur initiale, supposant que le niveau de conflit a diminué. Cependant, le niveau de conflit change lentement, et la remise de la fenêtre à sa valeur initiale cause de nouvelles collisions et de nouvelles retransmissions avant d’atteindre la bonne valeur de nouveau. Ceci dégrade considérablement les performances (débits, délais etc.). Dans cet article nous proposons des fonctions de décrémentation «lentes» des fenêtres, et nous comparons leurs performances à celles de la norme actuelle. Nous les analysons par simulation et nous montrons les gains considérables qu’elles apportent, sous tous les niveaux de congestion ainsi que durant les phases transitoires. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
