| Abstract | In transparent optical networks, the optical signal accumulates the effects of all physical impairments present along the path it traverses. The conventional selection of signal paths based on e.g. shortest path routing without considering the signal quality and its association with the physical impairments does not always provide the optimum solution in terms of network performance such as blocking and resource utilization. This paper proposes an impairment constraint based routing algorithm to achieve an optimal combination of physical and networking performance taking into account all physical linear impairments including noise, chromatic and polarization mode dispersion, crosstalk and filter concatenation effects in an integrated approach. The performance of a typical metropolitan area network is examined and the improvement achieved when using the proposed approach compared to the conventional shortest path routing is demonstrated.Dans les réseaux optiques transparents, le signal optique accumule les effets de toutes les dégradations physiques présentes le long du trajet parcouru. La sélection classique des trajets du signal selon, par exemple, le plus court chemin, sans tenir compte de la qualité du signal et des dégradations physiques associées, ne conduit pas toujours à la solution optimale en ce qui concerne la performance du réseau, en particulier le blocage et l’utilisation des ressources. L’article propose un algorithme de routage fondé sur une contrainte de dégradation, qui combine de façon optimale les aspects physiques et les aspects réseau, en tenant compte d’une manière intégrée, de toutes les dégradations physiques linéaires telles que le bruit, la dispersion chromatique, la dispersion de mode de polarisation, la diaphonie et les effets de concaténation des filtres. L’article examine ensuite la performance d’un réseau métropolitain typique et démontre l’amélioration obtenue au moyen de la méthode proposée par rapport au routage classique selon le plus court chemin. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
