NDLI: Long-Term Cold Storage Suppress the Development of Tuber Necrosis Caused by PVY$^{NTN}$

Abstract	The aim of this work was to determine the influence of different storage temperatures and tuber maturity on development of tuber necrosis caused by Potato virus Y $^{ NTN }$. Infected tubers of the cultivar Igor of two different maturity groups and non-infected tubers were randomly distributed into 12 storage regimes. Control treatments were stored at constant temperatures of 4, 13 and 24°C. Tubers in the other nine treatments were stored at 4°C at the beginning of experiment and transferred to 24°C after 1 to 29 weeks after harvest. High storage temperatures enhanced the development of tuber necrosis. Prolongation of low temperature storage delayed the development of necrosis and reduced the number of tubers with necrosis. When tubers were stored at low temperature for 21 weeks or more, no necrosis developed after transfer to high temperature. We could not confirm the effect of maturity on development of necrosis caused by PVY$^{NTN}$.El propósito de este trabajo fue determinar la influencia de diferentes temperaturas de almacenamiento y la madurez de tubérculo en el desarrollo de la necrosis del tubérculo causada por el virus Y$^{NTN}$ de la papa. Se distribuyeron al azar en 12 regímenes de almacenamiento tubérculos infectados de la variedad Igor de dos diferentes grupos de madurez y tubérculos sin infección. Los tratamientos testigo se almacenaron a temperaturas constantes de 4, 13 y 24°C. Los tubérculos de los otros nueve tratamientos se almacenaron a 4°C al inicio del experimento y se transfirieron a 24°C después de 1 a 29 semanas después de la cosecha. Altas temperaturas de almacenamiento estimularon el desarrollo de la necrosis del tubérculo. La prolongación de bajas temperaturas en el almacén retrasaron el desarrollo de la necrosis y redujeron el número de tubérculos con necrosis. Cuando los tubérculos se almacenaron a baja temperatura por 21 semanas o más, no hubo desarrollo de la necrosis después de transferirlos a alta temperatura. No pudimos confirmar el efecto de la madurez en el desarrollo de la necrosis causada por el PVY$^{NTN}$.
