| Abstract | First-principles density functional theory-based calculations have been carried out to predict the effects of Mn replacement by Fe and Cr on electronic as well as magnetic properties of $$\hbox {Pt}_{2}\hbox {MnGa}$$ and $$\hbox {Ni}_{2}\hbox {MnGa}$$ . All the materials studied here are predicted to have conventional Heusler alloy structure in their ground state and they are found to be electronically stable on the basis of their respective formation energy. The replacement of Mn by Fe leads to a ferromagnetic ground state whereas in case of Mn replacement by Cr an intrasublattice antiferromagnetic configuration has been observed to have lower energy. We study the magnetic exchange interaction between the atoms for the materials with ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic configurations to show the effects of Fe and Cr substitution at Mn site on the magnetic interactions of these systems. Detailed analysis of electronic structure in terms of density of states has been carried out to study the effect of substitution. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
