Abstract The anisotropy of 5CB type nematic liquid crystals was investigated by the X-ray interferometry method. The refractive indices n $_{0}$ and n $_{e}$ were determined and it was established that 5CB type nematic liquid crystals is X-ray optically positive anisotropic medium.
