| Abstract | An 8ZrO$_{2}$ · Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ solid solution of zirconia and alumina is studied by X-ray and neutron diffraction, small-angle neutron scattering, and nitrogen sorption. The samples are synthesized by the sol-gel method and then subjected to heat treatment at temperatures T $_{an}$ of 450, 600, and 950°C for 6–8 h. The first two samples are identified as X-ray amorphous, while the third sample has a complete crystalline structure (predominantly tetragonal phase, space group P4$_{2}$/nmc). The size of the coherent scattering region is 10–20 nm. The small-angle neutron scattering curves exhibit a pronounced peak; the peak position is shifted to low momentum-transfer values with increasing annealing temperature. The presence of a peak suggests that there is a certain correlation in the distribution of solid-phase particles in the sample volume. The density-density correlation functions are numerically established from the experimental small-angle scattering cross sections by the inverse Fourier transform method. The correlation lengths, volume fractions of the nanoparticles (pores), and specific surface areas of the samples are determined. As the annealing temperature rises, the characteristic pore size increases from 3.0 to 7.3 nm and the specific surface area of the samples decreases from 134 to 45 m$^{2}$/g. It is speculated that the samples contain a significant amount of pores with a size of less than 1 nm. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.

NDLI is a conglomeration of freely available or institutionally contributed or donated or publisher managed contents. Almost all these contents are hosted and accessed from respective sources. The responsibility for authenticity, relevance, completeness, accuracy, reliability and suitability of these contents rests with the respective organization and NDLI has no responsibility or liability for these. Every effort is made to keep the NDLI portal up and running smoothly unless there are some unavoidable technical issues.
