Abstract	Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich aus theoretischer und empirischer Sicht mit strategischen Allianzen und ihrer Umsetzung im Krankenhauswesen. Im Rahmen der empirischen Analyse wird schwerpunktmäßig untersucht, ob sich horizontale und vertikale strategische Allianzen in Bezug auf ihre Zielstrukturen und ihren Erfolg unterscheiden. Dem empirischen Teil liegen die Ergebnisse einer schriftlichen Befragung von nordrhein-westfälischen Krankenhäusern zu Grunde. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass horizontale Allianzen eher der Kostensenkung dienen, während vertikale Allianzen eher zur Erlösoptimierung beitragen.The present study investigates the implementation of strategic alliances in the German hospital sector from a theoretical and empirical point of view. The empirical analysis focuses on the differences between horizontal and vertical alliances with respect to their objectives and their success. The data used in the empirical analysis was collected by means of a written questionnaire which was sent to hospitals in North Rhine-Westphalia. The results indicate that horizontal alliances rather contribute to cost reductions, whereas vertical alliances rather contribute to revenue enhancement.
