NDLI: Role of demoulding agents during self-compacting concrete casting in formwork

Abstract	The use of “super-plasticisers” to obtain concretes that are highly workable, easy to place in formwork and require no vibration has spread throughout Europe in the last few years. The placing process for fresh so-called Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is linked to the friction that occurs at the concrete/wall interface.A rectilinear movement tribometer has been developed. Tests performed with certain modifications of the interface conditions show that friction is governed by the characteristics (viscosity, tensioactivity, etc.) on the demoulding agents used. The interface appears to undergo two types of phenomena. -shear stress in the thick lubricating layer, which entails low shear stresses. -granular behaviour. The shear stress is higher in the second case. L'introduction d'adjuvants «superplastifiants»d pour obtenir des bétons maniables et faciles à mettre en place sans vibration s'est largement développée en Europe ces dernières années. La mise en œuvre sur les chantiers de ces nouveaux bétons appelés bétons autoplaçants (BAP) est liée au frottement qui intervient à l'interface béton/paroi.Un tribomètre à mouvement rectiligne a été conçu. Des essais réalisés en modifiant les conditions d'interface font apparaître que le frottement est régi par les caractéristiques des agents de démoulage (viscosité, tensioactivité…). L'analyse des résultats montre que l'interface béton/paroi est le siège de deux phénomènes: -un cisaillement dans la couche limite aux interfaces, ce qui donne lieu à des contraintes de cisaillement faibles. -un comportement granulaire. La contrainte de cisaillement est plus élevée dans ce deuxième cas.
