Abstract	A pronounced irregularity in the formation of the shallow shelf of the Laptev Sea has been shown by the results of integrated geologic and geochemical studies. Considerable salinization was revealed in the above-permafrost lagoon masses, which intensified the saline effect in the thawing of the permafrost. The trend of coarsening sediment grains is also a precondition for the intensification of permafrost thawing. Variations in the content of organic carbon represent a considerable contribution of thermoabrasion and riverine runoff into the supply of organic matter and the formation of sediment mass. An integrated program of geological and geochemical studies of sediments at the shelf was created and applied. The program included procedures of sampling by core drilling, sample preparation, and lithological, chemical, and isotope analyses, as well as the integrated interpretation of field and experimental data.
