| Abstract | A series of polyads consisting of covalently —(CH$_{2}$)$_{4}$— linked fluorescein with carbazole and violgen have been synthesized and characterized. The studies of absorption, emission spectra and fluorescence lifetime quenching indicated that the intramolecular fluorescence quenching of fluorescein by violgen is mainly a static process through the formation of non-emission complex (fluorescence quenching efficiency ϕ$_{ q }$= 0. 97, lifetime quenching efficiency ϕ$_{ET}$ = 0, quenching efficiency of formation of non-emission complex ϕ$_{c}$ = 0.97); while the quenching by carbazole is mainly a dynamic electron transfer process (ϕ$_{Q}$ = 0. 63, ϕ$_{ET}$ = 0.63, ϕ$_{c}$ = 0). In the violgen-fluorescein-carbazole triads, ϕ$_{Q}$ = 0.97, ϕ$_{ET}$ = 0.65, ϕ$_{c}$ = 0.32, which suggests that the photoinduced interaction of fluorescein-carbazole pair and that of violgen-fluorescein pair are in a competitive process, the dynamic electron transfer from carbazole to fluorecein is dominant in the process. The free energy change of the photoinduced electron transfer and the back reactions in our polyads are also estimated. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
