| Abstract | Using a Method-of-Moments (MoM) code, we earlier simulated ultra-wideband (UWB) returned echoes from two targets, one penetrable and one impenetrable, buried in a soil with known electric properties. The simple shape of mines, coupled with their predictable deployment in the ground, has also provided a fundamental understanding of the underlying backscatter phenomenology. In particular, the backscattered waveform from a mine can be decomposed into a collection of closely spaced copies of an elemental wave object with different amplitudes and time delays. This wave object is here defined as the derivative of the waveform incident on the target. The spacing of the copies or replicas of the wave object could be determined by the round trip time delay between scattering centers. This methodology was previously applied to impenetrable targets and is now applied also to a penetrable target. The previously computed returns from each target for a given incident pulse are modeled by a few copies of the elemental wave object with the time delay and amplitude of each copy taken as unknown parameters. These parameters are then determined by minimizing in the least square sense the difference between the MoM computed signal and the model signal using the differential evolution method (DEM). The methodology is extended by way of our previously developed target translated method (TTM) to approximate the computation of the backscattered model signal when the target is buried at a different depth in the soil with a different moisture content. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
