| Abstract | One of the materials for the treatment and removal of heavy metals from industrial wastewater are hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles, which were examined in this research. The aim of this study was to separate and remove these poisonous substances from industrial wastewaters. To this end, HA powder was synthesized with the sol–gel method in nanometric dimensions, and hydrated calcium nitrate and triethylphosphite (P(OEt)$_{3}$) were used as precursors in ethanol. Structural changes, powder morphology, and the shape of granules were assessed by scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. In addition, solutions containing lead and cadmium, entitled “industrial wastewater”, were produced in the laboratory. The surface area and particle size of HA powders prepared by chemical precipitation were also determined by BET and a particle size analyzer, respectively. For this experiment, HA nanoparticles were added to the solution and mixed under certain conditions and at appropriate times. The results of this study were evaluated before and after treatment by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. After the addition of HA, Cd$^{2+}$, and Pb$^{2+}$ ion concentrations of the solution decreased to 507 ppm and less than 2 ppm, respectively. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
