| Abstract | We study the influence of the partial pressure of hydrogen sulfide (1–5 atm) and temperature (25–120°C) on the corrosion behavior of 09G2S steel in model seawater and the degree of its hydrogenation. It is shown that the increase in the partial pressure of hydrogen sulfide (p $_{H2S}$) up to 5 atm at 80°C leads to an increase in the corrosion rate of steel by almost an order of magnitude. It is shown that, for p $_{H2S}$ = 1–5 atm, hydrogen sulfide promotes the hydrogenation of steel. In this case, the amount of diffusion-mobile hydrogen is 3.5–3.7 times smaller than the amount of hydrogen with a higher energy of bonding with the metal. It is established that, the increase in temperature from 25 up to 120°C leads to a decrease in the corrosion rate of steel in model seawater for p $_{H2S}$ = 1 atm by a factor of ~ 6–8, whereas the degree of hydrogenation becomes 2.8–4.1 times larger. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
