| Abstract | Potato starch-based activated carbon spheres (PCS) were prepared by CO$_{2}$ activation in this paper. The morphology of PCS was examined by scanning electron microscopy. Effects of activation temperature and time on characteristics of PCS were studied by N$_{2}$ adsorption method, and the effect of pore structure of PCS on its electrochemical performances was studied by galvanostatic charge–discharge and cyclic voltammetry. The results indicate that PCS is hollow and retain the morphology of potato starch granule. Activation time has a more important effect on the formation and widening of micropores, the ratios of mesopore reaches 41% when activation time is prolonged to 120 min at 900 °C. Electrochemical test indicates good wetting property and conductivity of electrode material are beneficial to high specific capacitance, and mesopores play an important role in the fast transfer of electrolyte ions. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
