| Abstract | In the present work, microwave assisted synthesis of metallopolyurethaneamide (MicMCPUA) has been carried out from Castor seed oil. The aim of the work is (i) to utilize non toxic, abundantly available bioresources—seed oils, (ii) to develop environment friendly metallopolymers, as vital alternate to petrobased materials, (iii) through “green” technology-microwave assisted synthesis, for the first time, (iv) for application as ecofriendly protective coatings. MicMCPUA was synthesized “in situ” under microwave irradiations by the reaction of microwave assisted diol Castor fattyamide (MicDCFA, as organic matrix) and zinc acetates (5, 10 and 15 wt%, as inorganic modifier) without any harmful solvents resulting in the formation of pre-metallopolymer (MicMDCFA) that was further reacted with toluylene-2,4-diisocyanate (TDI). The effect of metal incorporation on structural (spectral), physico-chemical and thermal stability of metallopolyurethaneamide was studied by standard methods. The coating performance of the metallopolyurethaneamide was also investigated by physico-mechanical and potentiodynamic polarization measurements. These studies revealed that MicMCPUA may find application as eco-friendly corrosion protective coatings safely up to 200–220 °C. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
