| Abstract | Two new tetraosmium carbonyl clusters [Os$_{4}$(μ-H)$_{4}$(CO)$_{11}${η $^{1}$-NC$_{5}$H$_{4}$(N=N)C$_{6}$H$_{5}$}] (1) and [Os$_{4}$(μ-H)$_{4}$(CO)$_{10}${η $^{2}$-NC$_{5}$H$_{4}$(N=N)C$_{6}$H$_{5}$}] (2) were synthesized from the reaction of [Os$_{4}$(μ-H)$_{4}$(CO)$_{12}$] with two equivalent of 2-phenylazopyridine ligand in dichloromethane at ambient temperature using trimethylamine-N-oxide as the decarbonylation reagent. Subsequent chromatographic purification led to the isolation of 1and 2as stable orange and blue solids in respectively 25 and 13% yields. Complex 1converted to 2in a 25% yield in refluxing chloroform. Treating a solution of [Os$_{4}$(μ-H)$_{4}$(CO)$_{12}$] in dichloromethane with two equivalent of 3-phenylazopyridine led to the formation of another two new clusters [Os$_{4}$(μ-H)$_{4}$(CO)$_{11}${η $^{1}$-NC$_{5}$H$_{4}$(N=N)C$_{6}$H$_{5}$}] (3) and [Os$_{4}$(μ-H)$_{4}$(CO)$_{10}$(NMe$_{3}$){η $^{1}$-NC$_{5}$H$_{4}$(N=N)C$_{6}$H$_{5}$}] (4), which could be isolated as yellow solids in 34% and 21% yields respectively. Thermolysis of 3or 4in refluxing n-hexane gives [Os$_{4}$(μ-H)$_{3}$(CO)$_{10}${μ-η $^{3}$-NC$_{5}$H$_{3}$(N=N)C$_{6}$H$_{5}$}] (5) in 24 and 33% yields respectively. Their electronic absorption properties and electrochemical behavior are also reported. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
