| Abstract | A new binuclear samarium complex, (HPhen)$_{2}$[Sm$_{2}$(Hsal)$_{8}$(H$_{2}$O)$_{2}$] · 2H$_{2}$O (Hsal = o-HOC$_{6}$H$_{4}$CO$_{2}$ $^{−}$, Phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) was synthesized under hydrothermal condition. Single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that it crystallizes in triclinic, P−1 space group with a = 9.7012(19) Å, b = 14.372(3) Å, c = 14.823(3) Å, α = 68.38(3)°, β = 88.16(3)°, γ = 79.54(3)°, V = 1,888.0(7) Å$^{3}$, Z = 1, μ = 1.629, F(000) = 922. In the dimeric anion [Sm$_{2}$(Hsal)$_{8}$(H$_{2}$O)$_{2}$]$^{2−}$, the two Sm(III) ions are connected by four bidentate bridging salicylate ligands. Each Sm(III) ion is coordinated to eight oxygen atoms, seven from six salicylate ligands, one from one coordinated water molecule. The salicylate molecules adopt three kinds of coordination mode, bidentate bridging, chelating, and monodentate. The mono-protonated 1,10-phenanthroline does not coordinate to the central atom directly. National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
