Abstract	The methods and results of computational and experimental investigations of fretting corrosion and the characteristic vibrations of VVÉR-1000 fuel assemblies are presented. Fretting corrosion has been studied in a laboratory facility simulating fragments of the units that couple fuel elements with spacer lattices and the bottom support plate of the fuel assemblies. A mathematical model is developed for vibrations in the mechanical system fuel-element fragment + spacer-lattice fragment. A computational and experimental modal analysis of a fuel assembly is performed. The characteristic frequencies, forms, and decrements of fuel-assembly vibrations are determined. Satisfactory agreement is obtained between the computational and experimental results. The dependence of the dynamics of fretting corrosion on operational factors is evaluated.
