Abstract	The reddish dye of the generaMiniacina Galloway, 1933,Homotrema Hickson, 1911 andSporadotrema Hickson, 1911 seems to be a single organic compound identical in all three genera. With their tests looking similar in colouration and arborescent habit, the genera are difficult to distinguish. Yet their megalospheric embryos are structurally different and therefore allow a reliable distinction of the abundant megalospheric tests of each genus. Concerning the adult chamber morphology, the test ofHomotrema andMiniacina is built by expanse chambers, the one ofSporadotrema by chamberlet cycles. Only inSporadotrema merging pores can be found, and only inHomotrema there are stylae left standing by intensive resportion of the inner test. Thus, the red-coloured, lamellar-perforate arborescent foraminifera belong to three different taxonomic groups withMiniacina andHomotrema being related closer to each other than toSporadotrema.
