Abstract  Polysiloxane structures closely related to Kautsky’s siloxene have been prepared starting from well defined cyclosilane units. The products exhibit moderate to strong fluorescence ranging from 400 to 550 nm, depending on the ring size and the number and nature of substituents. No fluorescence was observed for products derived from linear silane units. The fluorescence is influenced by the functionality of the siloxane networks as shown in a comparison of cyclosilane compounds with one functionality per ring up to species with two functionalities per each silicon atom of the ring.
