| Abstract | In the dilute γ-Fe2O3–ZnFe2O4 binary ferrofluids, the magnetic interaction between γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles is large enough to form aggregates. The magnetization behavior of the binary ferrofluids with ϕ γ =0.4 % and ϕ Zn=0.1 %, 0.2 %, or 0.4 % are investigated. The magnetism of ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles is very weak so the magnetization behavior of the binary ferrofluids results mainly from the γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticle system. Experimental results indicate that the initial susceptibility of the binary ferrofluids with ϕ Zn=0.4 % is the smallest, although that with ϕ Zn=0.2 % is larger than the one with ϕ Zn=0.1 %. In addition, at high field, the magnetization of the ferrofluid with ϕ Zn=0.4 % is greatest. These results show that both chain-like and ring-like aggregates of γ-Fe2O3 particles are stimulated by the ZnFe2O4 particle system. The contributions of the two types of aggregate in the magnetization process are different. The ratio of these aggregates varies nonmonotonically with ϕ Zn, so as ϕ Zn increases; the weak magnetic ZnFe2O4 particle system produces a nonmonotonic modification of the initial susceptibility of these binary ferrofluids. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
