| Abstract | This study was carried out to identify the main decisions affecting changes in tree cover in cattle farms and the factors that determine these decisions. The decisions were modeled in Netica 1.12, using field data and simulations. The most important decisions that influence on-farm tree cover include weed control (practiced with a 95% probability), tree harvesting (43%), live fence pollarding (65%) and planting of new live fences (35%). The factors affecting weed control were capital availability and weed population. Tree harvesting was affected by the demand for tree products (wood and posts), availability of labour and availability of capital. Live fence pollarding was associated with capital availability and tree crown size. The planting of live posts was related to the demand for new fences and the availability of labor. |
