Abstract	Hepatitis B is the major health problem globally casting an enormous burden on healthcare system and major source of patient’s misery. It is also an important cause of hepatocellular carcinoma and is likely to remain a serious health problem resulting in substantial morbidity and mortality for several decades to come. Objective of the study was to determine the level of knowledge regarding hepatitis B among Hepatitis B patient in Ruang Rindu A1 Rumah Sakit Haji Adam Malik, Medan from July to August. This descriptive study was conducted on Hepatitis B patien in Ruang Rindu A1 Rumah Sakit Haji Adam Malik, Medan. The design used is crosssectional study. Information was collected on pre-designed questionnaire containing questions regarding basic knowledge of disease, its causative organism, route of transmission and its prevention. A total of 37 respondents with Hepatitis B in Ruang Rindu A1 Rumah Sakit Haji Adam Malik, Medan was tested. Out of 37 respondents, 26 (70,3%) correctly responded that Hepatitis B is a major health problem. Regarding mode of transmission of HBV, 19 (51,4%) mentioned sexual intercourse or contaminated needles, 21 (56,8%) mentioned contaminated food and 24 (64,9%) mentioned from mother to child. When they were asked about the treatment of Hepatitis B, 30 (81,1%) mentioned that Hepatitis B is curable. 30 (81,1%) Hepatitis B patients knew that vaccine is available for prevention. Based on the data gained from the questionnaire it can be concluded that 13,51% respondents received high knowledge score whereas the rest, 86,49% respondents received an average knowledge score. Although no respondents received a low knowledge score, the majority of patients still received an average knowledge score which shows that an effort to increase their level of knowledge still needs an attention.
