| Abstract | The use of smartphones by students in the classroom is increasing every year. The number of features that devices offer consequently distracts its users at their activities. There are countless discussions about the use of smartphone in the classroom, but there has been found no researches that explore quantitatively the subject. So far the amount of time the students use the device or the level of interactions with the smartphones in or out class is not known. Recent studies of activity recognition using of sensors explore daily activities as walk, sit and get up. These activities are monitored by sensors and classified by algorithms. The work proposed here is an union of these two fronts, that is, the use of smartphones’ sensors data for the for the recognition of student activities in the classroom, in order to quantify the device usage level. The data is collected, stored in a server, analysed and then quantified. By the end of this work it will be possible to observe students’ activities pattern through the analysis of the data set obtained. |
