Orientador: Prof. Renato Ramos Campos, Dr. This work analyses the competitive dynamics and processes of learning of the productive arrangement of the furniture of the area West of Santa Catarina. The formation of this arrangement is relatively recent, being constituted, mainly, starting from the nineties. Counts with 293 companies, specially micro and small and, represents 5% of the existent direct jobs in the area. Before this, the development possibilities and consolidation of the micro, small and average companies were consolidation of the extent of the productive arrangement. The work analyzes the historic specifities of the formation and development of this arrangement and, above all, the mainly characteristics of the productive structure, the learning processes, the governance form, and the institutional skeleton and, noticeably the knowledge corporate existents. With base in the literature on the dynamics innovative, the governance forms and the processes of technological learning in the Neo-Schumpeteriano referential, field research was accomplished using questionnaire structured for analysis of the characteristics and technological training of the companies of the arrangement. This analysis made possible to identify the flows of information, the interactions, the external, the institutional structure of support and, specially, the possibilities of development of the arrangement. In the productive structure, it was verified that the division of the work is low and incipient. The competition pattern is based on low prices an productive scale and, above all, identified that, there isn`t a form of explicit governance. While that the knowledge structure a great diversity of support institutions, however with low interactions levels, the learning mechanisms are restricted and passive, predominantly “learning by doing”. The identification of the characteristics of the productive structure and of the knowledge structure, demonstrated that the possibilities of development of the arrangement go by the need of a larger articulation and institutional interaction, besides the application of appropriate industrial and technological politics. The work also supplied subsidies for the suggestion of these politics that, in last analysis it can be provide larger competitive dynamisation and, specially the establishment of a vicious circle of local growth.
