Abstract	The importance of atherosclerosis in the development of diseases has aroused the interest of researchers for experimental models that may better characterize it. In this work, we elaborated a low-cost hypercholesterolemic diet capable of inducing hypercholesterolemia in rats; evaluating their effects on weight, body mass and plasma cholesterol. Twenty male Rattus norvegicus rats were weighed and randomly divided into two groups: Normal Commercial Ration (RN, n = 10) and Experimental Hypercholesterolemic Ration (HL, n = 10) containing Labina Purina, lard and egg. 57 ELABORAÇÃO DE DIETA HIPERLIPÍDICA DE BAIXO CUSTO PARA INDUÇÃO DE HIPERCOLESTEROLEMIA EM RATOS Acta Scientiae Biological Reseach, v. 2, n. 2, p. 55-67, 2017. The results indicated that the low-cost Experimental Hyperlipidemic diet was able to induce hypercholesterolemia, presenting a significant increase of body mass, without, however, increasing the weight of the animals.
