| Abstract | Around the planet, numerous research initiatives are taking place to mitigate the effects of climate change. These activities—emerging from diverse research projects from basic and applied science—often suffer from lack of an overall design strategy that would allow capitalising on cross-specialised knowledge by having an integrative, holistic and synergistic approach to innovation design and implementation. This chapter discusses a particular research project and describes how a design methodology could help to address issues such as equality, empowerment, autonomy, creativity, performance and cycle times and provide for the necessary balance between control, speed and flexibility.
