| Abstract | The objective of this work is to analyze the rural credit distribution within Sao Paulo state, from 1999 to 2009. It uses Theil index T, based on the Gross Product Value of the agricultural sector to verify if the credit distribution is concentrated, and brings a contribution in considering the three level of regional aggregation – “meso” region, micro region and counties – to calculate the index. Regarding this aspect the participation of each regional subdivision in the state index is 10, 16 and 74%, respectively. The results show that the inequality level for the Sao Paulo state grew from 0,58 in 1999 to 0,83 in 2009. The “meso” region of Ribeirao Preto is the one with the bigger index value, which was raised in the analyzed period. Among the micro regions, Ribeirao Preto, Piracicaba, Marilia, Sorocaba, Sao Jose dos Campos e Registro are the ones which presented the higher inequality in the credit distribution. Most of the micro regions concentrate the credit in one or few counties, which contributes to the higher participation of these unities in the total index. The conclusion is that the higher level of disaggregation considered the larger the inequality in the rural credit distribution. Besides, the increase in the resources during the analyzed period has raised the distribution inequality. |
