| Abstract | This study aims at analyzing the construction of meanings of feminism on the Elle Brasil fashion magazine. To this end, an analysis was conducted regarding two editions of the magazine from 2015, from May and December, which addressed feminism and its own concepts as the main theme. Our decision was to analyze the texts which addressed the theme and the images in the two editions as a whole in order to compare the coherence between the two different discourses. For main theoretical background, we used the French guidelines for Discourse Analysis (DA). Throughout the texts, seven text discursive formations (TDFs), two of them being tied to the axis of meaning "Feminism and Fashion" The conflictuous relation between fashion and feminism and Elle as a feminist magazine-, two to the axis of meaning "Body" For the end of assault and Liberty to be who you are-, two to the axis of meaning "Equality of Opportunity" Parity of opportunities for men and women and Disparities in the movement-, and one to the axis of meaning "Female Union" Female Sorority. In the images, we identified six image discursive formations (IDFs) which bore meanings for the representation of women: white woman, non-white woman, young woman, non-young woman, thin woman, and non-thin woman. As these meanings were identified, we concluded that the feminist discourse in Elle Brasil is restricted to the texts and images whose specific topic is feminism itself, while in the images of the other pages from the two editions the meanings that prevail are related to the eurocentric standards of the white young thin woman. Key-words: Feminism; Elle Brasil; Discourse Analysis; Woman; Fashion Magazines. |
