| Abstract | The spiral figure is the Pre-Columbian design that appears most frequently on the rock art in Nariño, however, until now the geometrical properties have not been determined by this representation. Thus, a statistical study is carried out of a sample of the 44 spirals represented in the petroglyphs of the north-western sector of the Municipality of Pasto, in which the following is researched: number of spirals according to the direction of their movement, dimensions of the spirals, lines and number of turns of the engravings and the type of the spiral traced. The research allowed us to determine that the design in question corresponds to a spiral of two centres, which sheds light on the first evidence in favour of the existence of geometrical patterns in the elaboration of these archaeological vestiges. |
