| Abstract | Introduction: The familial cancer syndromes include the aggregation of some types of cancer without a clear pattern of inheritance. Objective: The objective was to evaluate the occurrence of cancer in relatives of first and second degrees of deceased patients with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: Data were obtained from 54 charts recorded between 2000 and 2007 at the Institute Maranhense of Oncology Aldenora Bello, as well as through interviews with relatives of those patients for the construction of pedigree. Results: The average age of patients at diagnosis was 40.5 years old. There was a history of cancer in 18 families, 11 families had cases of cancer in relatives of first degree relatives and four in the second degree. It was a concentration of cases of cancer in families of patients diagnosed up to 40 years of age, which gives room to genetic counseling. |
