| Abstract | For the group UT m n ( ⋀ ) of triangular matrices over an associative ring ⋀, with m -1 consecutive zero diagonals up the principal diagonal we determine its centralizer in GL n ( ⋀ ). This fact is then used to compute the order of the center of UT m n ( ⋀ ), when ⋀ is finite. Moreover. we give an example of an invertible triangular matrix whose inverse is not triangular. |
