| Abstract | An analysis of a set of malacological fragments, belonging to the giant snail Megalobulimus lorentzianus (Doering 1876) or Borus from an excavation carried out in Cerro Colorado (province of Cordoba), is made. The results obtained suggest that the stratigraphic deposits from which these fragments were recovered would be of anthropic origin, since there would be indications of selection of these malacological elements. These evidences are discussed in relation to the manufacture of beads destined to personal ornamentation, while it is proposed to the sites of origin of these findings, as a locus of production that registers different moments of an operative chain, whose components are characterized by quantitative variations. Based on the contextual information and the archaeological data collected during the last years, it is estimated that the chronology for the artisanal uses of this resource are compatible with the Late Prehispanic period proposed for the Central Sierras (ca. 1500-400 AP). |
