| Abstract | The objective of this dissertation research was to understand how religious conceptions are developed by children ten years old. In order to do this, I studied theories by Piaget, Kohlberg, Fowler, and Durand, among others, to better understand the process children undertake when maturing from concrete to abstract concepts. Field studies were carried out in two self-identified Christian schools located in the Southern district of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais: one Roman Catholic and the other Protestant, with both having a discipline called Religious Education in their curricula. Data collection was accomplished via a questionnaire answered by the students, who were chosen at random, from the 5 grade of each Primary School. The research investigated the possible influences of family, school and religious institutions on the creation of the childhood religious conceptions of these ten-year-olds. I began the investigation under the assumption that childhood religious conceptions were linked to the plans of Christian schools to develop such conceptions via their discipline called Religious Education. Key-words: Children's religious conceptions. Family. School. Religious institution. |
