| Abstract | Due to globalization, organizations and public inst itutions are being pushed towards the improvement of their information systems and manage ment tools, aiming at more efficient decision making within their limited available reso urces. Specifically in the case of the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Techno logy (Inmetro), it turns out to be a strategic goal the establishment of trust and impro vement of the coverage of the activities carried out by the Brazilian Network of Legal Metro logy and Quality (RBMLQ-I). Therefore, this paper aims at proposing a methodology for data in egration and use of statistical information resulting in increased and more efficie nt operations under the RBMLQ-I. Among the sectors subject to the control of the Network a nd due to its economic and strategic relevance, the transport sector was chosen for the development of the present work. Moreover, it has Legal Metrology as fundamental in controlling the tachograph installed in the vehicles of the Brazilian fleet. This research identified potential producers of information that could improve the quality of the databases use d by Inmetro. The National Registration Database Load Carriers (RNTRC), maintained by the N ational Land Transportation Agency (ANTT), was integrated into Inmetro ́s database aimi ng at improving the knowledge of the real tachograph universe subject to inspection by t he RBMLQ-I. The new database was built through microdata integration, with the aid of SQL Server and SPSS softwares. The results obtained showed that the amount of Brazilian vehicl s, after data integration, reached 2,333,943 vehicles with tachographs subject to metr ological control. Compared to the original universe, it amounts to 1,501,369 new vehicles to b e added to Inmetro ́s database, or an increase of 180.3%. Analyses were made to data pert ining to the States of the Federation and a specific case study was conducted for the Institu te of Metrology and Quality State of Minas Gerais (IPEM-MG). In all developed approaches signi ficant quantities of vehicles were added to the previous databases, indicating that the plan ning of the RBMLQ-I activities can be improved by the methodological procedure developed in this study. It was concluded that the aforementioned methodology was effective in terms o f incorporating data coming from external information sources. We therefore strongl y recommend its application to other fields of activity, in adherence to Inmetro ́s mission and as a tool for increasing social benefits generated by the Institute. |
