Abstract	Purpose – presentation of internal audit history and its current area of interest. Design/methodology/ approach – literature study, analysis of reports of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), comparative analysis. Findings – using the IIA reports, main areas of the research as well as the scope of commissioned audit were presented. Originality/value – extending the state of internal audit with experience of other countries.
